In 2025, we began the Early Access program for Alexa+, our next generation assistant powered by generative AI. Alexa+ builds on what customers have always loved about Alexa, but it’s also completely new and significantly more capable—it’s smarter, more conversational, more personalized, and can get a wide range of things done on your behalf.

The feedback we’re getting from customers is encouraging. Canadians using Alexa+ engage with their assistant 2x more than with the previous generation of Alexa and they talk to her even more frequently. Customers tell us that the new conversational abilities of Alexa+ make her truly useful. For instance, usage of smart home features has increased by 60% and customers are asking for 5x more recipes—and it’s still early days.

For the past few months, we’ve offered Alexa+ to customers through an Early Access program, which has helped us collect valuable feedback to continue shaping the experience. Today, we’re making Alexa+ available to all Canadians, both in English and French.

What is Alexa+
Alexa+ is built on an entirely new architecture powered by large language models. But the real breakthrough isn’t just in what Alexa+ knows — it’s what she can do.

More conversational, capable, and personalized than ever before, Alexa+ was brought to life with the help of Canadian talent working at Amazon’s Toronto and Vancouver Tech Hubs.

Customers in Canada are already using Alexa+ for deeper, more natural interactions — discussing music, artists, and current events, asking follow-up questions, and having ongoing conversations where Alexa+ remembers context over time.

Alexa+ also introduces new agentic capabilities that help customers complete everyday tasks more seamlessly, from booking a table through OpenTable to planning a trip using Tripadvisor and Fodor’s. And more services are coming soon, like booking a ride with UberRides.

Customers are also using Alexa+ to manage their homes and routines in new ways pairing it with Ring cameras for smart alerts, uploading school schedules to automatically update family calendars, getting homework help, discovering recipes, shopping for pantry staples, and receiving step-by-step cooking guidance.

While it’s still early, Alexa+ is already making everyday life easier, more helpful, and more personalized for customers in Canada.
