Since opening its doors in 2016, Amazon’s YYZ4 fulfillment centre has been powering possibilities in Brampton through job creation, career growth, and providing employees the opportunity to make a difference in their community. To celebrate this milestone, YYZ4 team members are continuing that legacy by giving back to local children and youth.

As part of the anniversary celebration, YYZ4 employees came together to pack 1,000 backpacks with a total of 10,000 school supplies for Peel Children’s Aid Foundation’s Back to School Program. The donation will help 1,000 children and youth across Peel Region start the school year with the supplies they need to feel prepared, confident, and included.

Through the Back to School Program, Peel Children’s Aid Foundation and Peel Children’s Aid Society (Peel CAS) work together with the community each year to provide children and youth with essential school supplies. Last year, Peel CAS’s services supported 8,154 families across Peel Region.

“We are grateful to Amazon’s YYZ4 team and its volunteers for choosing to celebrate their 10-year anniversary by giving back in a meaningful way to children and youth in our community,” said Frank Cerisano, CEO, Peel Children’s Aid Foundation. "Their generosity will ensure the children and youth we support, alongside Peel CAS, can begin the school year with the supplies they need and with the confidence that comes from feeling prepared, supported and included.”

The initiative builds on an existing relationship between YYZ4 and Peel Children’s Aid Foundation. YYZ4 employees have volunteered with the organization for several years, and the site has provided more than $360,000 in in-kind donations.

Celebrating a decade of powering possibilities
The backpack packing took place during YYZ4’s 10th anniversary Family Fun BBQ, which brought together more than 3,200 attendees including Amazon associates, alumni, leaders, and their families to celebrate the people and community that have shaped the site over the past decade.

Among those returning to YYZ4 was Anthony Barron, who helped launch the fulfillment centre in 2016. Barron began his career at YYZ4 as an Area Manager and has since grown his career with the company, now serves as a Site Leader at Amazon’s Bolton facility, YYZ7.

“YYZ4 has always felt like home,” said Barron. “It’s amazing to come back and see how much the site has evolved over the past 10 years. That growth is really a reflection of the dedicated leaders and team members who have been part of YYZ4, and the opportunities people have had to learn, grow, and build their careers here.”
