As the saying goes, life doesn’t come with a manual - it comes with a mother.

Every day at Amazon, mothers and mother figures of all stripes bring their wisdom, empathy and camaraderie to the workplace. In return, Amazon offers resources and benefits that help mothers thrive both at home and on the job, growing their careers while their children grow up. From paid parental leave to a group RRSP plan and estate planning services, Amazon’s comprehensive benefits for regular employees start on day one, and help them care for their families over the long term.

For Navdeep, a frontline employee at Amazon’s DOI3 delivery station in Brampton, Ontario, the road to motherhood was initially paved with heartbreak. A year after losing her infant daughter following a premature birth, she was given a second chance at motherhood when she became pregnant again – and engaged her site’s safety leader to understand what safeguards were available to her at work.

“I had a complicated pregnancy, but our site’s Workplace Health and Safety leader helped me in every way she could – from explaining the various precautions and accommodations to being a constant source of support,” remembers Navdeep. “I gave birth to a healthy baby boy – and I am especially grateful on Mother’s Day.”

For single mother Wendy, who works at Amazon’s YHM1 robotics fulfilment centre in Hamilton, Ontario, the company was part of her transition to physical work after being in a wheelchair because of her fibromyalgia.

“Amazon has empowered be as a single mother, by offering a supportive work environment while also giving me the space and support to start a new chapter in my life. Balancing my work health with my work and family life has been difficult, but worth it. My goal is to take advantage of career growth opportunities at Amazon, because I love working here and there are so many opportunities for advancement.”

Work-family balance is also top of mind for Ramandeep, an employee at Amazon’s YHM8 storage and distribution centre in Bolton, Ontario.

“I feel blessed to have wonderful kids at home – but when I first had children, I found it impossible to understand how I was going to balance work and home life. Not only does Amazon give me support as a working mother, I’m fortunate to have great in-laws who allow me to go to work stress-free. I feel grateful to have such a wonderful family at home, and also a wonderful work family that supports my motherhood journey on the job.”
