In celebration of Prime Monday Night Hockey and in partnership with the NHLPA, Claude Giroux – star forward for the Ottawa Senators – stopped by to meet employees, tour the facility, and help deliver smiles to customers. But the highlight of the day wasn’t just what happened inside the building – it was the impact made beyond its walls.

Giving Back to the Ottawa Food Bank and Barrhaven Food Cupboard
As part of Amazon’s ongoing commitment to supporting the local community, the event included a donation of essential items to the Ottawa Food Bank and Barrhaven Food Pantry, presented by Giroux and YOW3 employees. The support comes at a critical time of year, helping ensure families across the region have access to food and support during the holiday season, when demand is typically at its highest.

During his visit, Giroux also experienced firsthand what peak season looks like at YOW3. He joined employees for a hands-on tour of the fulfillment centre, where associates are hard at work preparing holiday orders using the latest Amazon Robotics technology. Giroux also visited the area of YOW3 dedicated to getting Same-Day Deliveries out the door. Amazon recently announced the expansion of Same-Day Delivery in Ottawa, with new afternoon delivery windows (10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 2 to 6 p.m.), giving customers greater control over when their packages arrive throughout the day.

He stepped onto the packing floor, talked to employees about their roles, and even tried his hand at prepping customer shipments – proving he’s just as skilled off the ice as he is on it.

Q&A: Claude Giroux
To wrap up the visit, we sat down with Giroux for a quick Q&A about life on and off the ice, from his pre-game routines to what makes the Ottawa community so special to him.

  1. Most memorable moment of your career so far? I'd say my 2nd year, we went to the Stanley Cup finals, and, you know, being a kid and wanting to win the Stanley Cup, obviously. We didn't win, but just to be able to experience being the finals, and, you know, it's been a lot of years since and still trying to get back there.
  2. Best gift you’ve ever received — or given? Pretty simple one – when I was about nine years old, my dad wrapped up a hockey stick and he put it beside the tree, and for the whole month he said thatit wasn’t a hockey stick, so it was something else, and for some reason I'm nine so I just believed him, and then I opened it up and it was a hockey stick, and I was pretty excited.
  3. What’s your favourite thing about Ottawa? My family and friends are all here, and, anytime I get to spend time with them, and I got three boys now, so anytime you get to spend with the family, I think that's very important.
  4. What’s your favourite holiday tradition with your family? I'd say, just being with the family, we usually play a lot of games, cards, and I guess we’re pretty competitive – so we know that when Christmas starts, it's going to be a competition – could be mini sticks with the kids now, and back then, it used to be playing cards with the grandparents, and just spending time with them.
  5. If Amazon guaranteed a same-day delivery of one holiday “superpower” (anything from endless energy to perfectly wrapped gifts) which one are you choosing and why? I've been asked that question before, and I think it's got to be flying – I mean, who doesn't want to fly? And things you can do – it's a pretty easy one for me.
