In celebration of Prime Monday Night Hockey and in partnership with the NHLPA, Toronto Maple Leafs forward, Matthew Knies, experienced YYZ4’s peak operations firsthand. Fresh off an exciting 2-0 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Knies arrived ready to roll up his sleeves and make a meaningful impact in the community.

Supporting Local Shelters Across the GTA
As part of Amazon’s commitment to supporting the communities where employees live and work, the event included a donation of essential items to three local shelters:

Knies and Amazon employees helped gift-wrap items for the shelters, which will help provide safety, comfort, and critical resources to women and families during the holiday season, when they see some of their highest demand.

Behind the Scenes at YYZ4: Where Peak Season Comes to Life
During his visit, Knies got an inside look at what holiday operations really look like at YYZ4. Guided by employees, he watched how thousands of packages move across the site every hour, from the moment an item is picked with a bit of help from the facility’s fleet of robots to when it gets packed for shipping – including for Same-Day Delivery, which is part of YYZ4’s operations and was recently expanded with two new afternoon delivery windows. He also got hands-on to help pick, pack and autograph some orders going to local customers.

His enthusiasm and attention to detail made it clear: whether he’s on the ice or on the packing line, he’s all about teamwork.

Q&A: Matthew Knies
To wrap up the visit, we sat down with Knies for a quick Q&A about hockey, the holidays, and the importance of giving back to the community.

  1. Most memorable moment of your career so far? The most memorable moment of my career was probably my first NHL goal. I remember it was against Florida. It was an awesome experience, and it was fun to have my family there.
  2. Best gift you’ve ever received — or given? The best I ever received was a hockey stick when I was a young kid, that was the one I was always waiting for.
  3. What do you love most about Toronto? Probably the food. So many different restaurants downtown and different things to try. That’s the thing I enjoy most.
  4. What’s your favourite holiday tradition with your family? Watching Christmas movies with my family. Doing the same dinner and having everyone around the table is pretty special. It’s hard to have everyone in the same spot during the busy hockey season, so to have everyone together around the table is enough for me.
  5. If Amazon could deliver one holiday “superpower” to help you through the season, what would you pick and why? I think it would be gift wrapping. I am terrible at it, and I would love to have that superpower.
