This November, Amazon proudly commemorates Remembrance Day, a time dedicated to honouring the sacrifices of those who have served their country. Amazon employees across Canada are participating in activities like letter writing, poppy wearing, photo and uniform displays, and a special wreath-laying ceremony at Toronto's Old City Hall. These initiatives reflect Amazon's commitment to honouring Canadian Armed Forces members, past and present, and fostering a supportive community for veterans.
Amazon's Warriors Employee-Led Group: A Community for Veterans
Warriors at Amazon is one of the company's 11 employee-led groups and among the few in Canada focused on veterans, military spouses, and military-connected communities. The group creates meaningful career development pathways by valuing veterans' unique experiences and building professional networks for those already serving within Amazon. It helps transitioning service members and their families navigate entry into the civilian workforce while maintaining a steadfast commitment to creating an inclusive environment where all military-connected employees can succeed.
This year, Warriors at Amazon delivered 18,000 poppies across sites in Canada and contributed a $6,600 donation to support veterans' initiatives.
Spotlight on Amazon's Veterans: Stories of Service and Transition
Veterans at Amazon bring unparalleled leadership, resilience, and mission-driven focus to their jobs every day.
Mike Boyce, Area Manager – YXU1 Fulfilment Centre | Army, Lord Strathcona's Horse Royal Canadians
After eight years in the Canadian Armed Forces including three deployments to Afghanistan, Mike has spent four years bringing his military leadership experience to Amazon. "The skills they teach you in the military are easily transferable," says Mike, who values Amazon's dedicated commitment to recognizing veterans' potential. For Mike, whose grandfather served in World War II, Remembrance Day carries profound meaning: "It means honouring anyone I've known who has passed away over there or had mental issues afterwards."
Dan McKinney, Defence Industry Practice Lead – AWS Canada | Army, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, Colonel, 25 Years of Service
"I joined AWS Canada two years ago after retiring from a 25-year career with the Army's Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. What excites me most in my role leading AWS Canada's Defence Industry practice is working alongside an incredible team who shares my passion for supporting our armed forces. While I may have hung up my uniform, my heart remains devoted to serving those who risk so much for our nation."
Partnering for Remembrance
This Remembrance Day, Amazon has partnered with The Royal Canadian Legion to make commemorative Poppies and other Remembrance items accessible to Canadians nationwide.
Through Amazon.ca, customers can donate $2, $5, $10, or $20 to receive a lapel Poppy, with 100% of donations supporting the Legion's Poppy Trust Fund. Canadians can also purchase items like red neon window Poppies and "We Remember" lawn signs, providing a visible way to honour veterans.
