On Friday, December 19, Montreal-born Kris Letang, defenseman for the Pittsburgh Penguins, returned home for a visit that went beyond the rink. In partnership with the NHLPA and Prime Monday Night Hockey, Letang took part in a special holiday delivery supporting the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation, helping bring joy to children and families during a challenging time of year.
Supporting CHU Sainte-Justine
As part of Amazon’s commitment to supporting communities across Canada, hundreds of toys, comfort items, and essential supplies requested directly by CHU Sainte-Justine were donated through the hospital’s Amazon wish list.
Letang arrived at the hospital’s main entrance aboard a delivery vehicle, loaded with gifts destined for young patients. Inside, he was greeted by volunteers and hospital staff beneath CHU Sainte-Justine’s towering Christmas tree – a festive setting that became the heart of the day’s celebration.
The moment marked the official delivery of the wish list items, with Letang thanking volunteers, hospital teams, and partners for the work they do year-round to support children and families across Quebec.
For Letang, the visit carried special meaning. Born in Montreal, he spoke about the importance of giving back to the community that shaped him and about how partnerships like Prime Monday Night Hockey can help create moments of joy where they matter most.
Q&A: Kris Letang
Earlier in the day, we spoke with Letang about returning to Montreal, giving back, and what moments like this mean to him.
- Most memorable moment of your career so far? Honestly, at the end of the day, it’s the interactions with the fans—when I get the chance to spend time with kids, to try to give them a taste for hockey or offer them a few small tips. Moments when you interact with children, I find that it’s kind of magical, or more fun than with older people or parents. I really like it when it’s the kids who are asking the questions.
- Best gift you’ve ever received — or given? Probably hockey sticks. We didn’t have a lot of money when I was growing up, so whenever I had the chance to order a new stick or a jersey, those were probably the best gifts I ever received.
- What do you love most about Montreal? Aside from playing the game at the Bell Centre, with the atmosphere and friends in the stands, I’d say it’s always been a city with a lot of energy. There are a lot of great restaurants and great places to go and do things. Just the overall vibe of the city—that’s what I really love.
- What’s your favourite holiday tradition with your family? Honestly, sometimes we like being in Montreal, sometimes we like being in Pittsburgh; sometimes we do it with a lot of family, sometimes it’s just the four of us. Being a hockey player involves a lot of travel, and there aren’t many moments when you’re all together, so having the chance to be the four of us together means a lot.
- If Amazon could deliver one holiday “superpower” to help you through the season, what would you pick and why? My superpower? Being able to win every hockey game!
